Who Are You Trying to Fool?

April Fool’s Day is observed in most of the countries of the world. Although it is not a formal holiday in any country, it’s a day for jokes, pranks, and hoaxes. On April 1st, people “stretch” the truth and then announce, “April Fools.”

Are we trying to fool the one who loves us the most? Are we guilty of trying to fool God? Are we guilty of trying to keep secrets from God? There’s no fooling God. There is no place we can go where He does not see our every move. Proverbs 15: 3, says: “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Those who think they have God fooled are only fooling themselves! God sees all things! He hears all things! Nothing escapes His attention!

He is omniscient (Latin words omni=all and scientia=knowledge). The truth of this infinite knowledge is that God knows all things-past, present, and future. Nothing can fool God or be hidden from Him, and therefore, it is impossible to catch God by surprise or keep secrets from Him.

God's omniscience includes knowing every detail about the universe and every thought, action, and event that occurs within it regardless of time or place. Omniscience is seen as an essential attribute, highlighting God's wisdom, sovereignty, and ability to perfectly govern and understand creation.

Psalm 139:1-4: "O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether."

1 John 3:20: "For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything."

In contrast, human beings, with their limited knowledge and understanding, can often be surprised and fooled by unexpected events or discoveries. This difference highlights the vast gap between divine omniscience and human experience.

Humans have a limited scope of knowledge. While we continually strive to understand the universe, our knowledge is constrained by our senses, cognitive abilities, and the tools at our disposal. Our understanding of the past is based on recorded history and physical evidence, the present is limited by our immediate environment, and the future remains largely uncertain.

Human understanding is often subjective, influenced by personal experiences, biases, culture, and emotions. This contrasts sharply with the concept of God's omniscience, which is absolute, objective, and unaffected by any external factors.

Human knowledge progresses through a process of discovery, experimentation, and validation. Scientific theories are continually tested and refined, and new discoveries can alter our understanding of the world. This iterative process stands in contrast to the idea of God's perfect and complete knowledge from the outset.

There are numerous mysteries and unknowns in the universe that humanity has yet to unravel, from the nature of dark matter to the origins of consciousness. While humans grapple with these enigmas, God's omniscience implies a complete understanding of all such mysteries.

Humans learn and grow morally and ethically through experience, education, and reflection. Our moral understanding evolves over time, influenced by cultural norms, philosophical thought, and religious teachings. In contrast, God's knowledge of morality and ethics is seen as perfect and unchanging, providing an absolute standard against which human actions can be measured.

In summary, while humans strive to expand their knowledge and understanding, they remain limited by their finite nature and perspective. In contrast, the concept of God's omniscience portrays an all-encompassing, perfect knowledge that transcends human limitations.

The omniscient God loves us more than we love ourselves and that is no “April Fool’s”.
